Today I Feel . . .

Anxious about my upcoming photo shoot I have to organize completely on my own...

Relieved I have such loyal friends with such great photographic skills who are willing to be my photographer for said photo shoot...

Unorganized. I feel like I don't ever have enough time to do all the things I need to do in one day...

Amazed at the things I will be doing in the next few weeks for class. A MAC makeup line release party, a Bridal Fashion Show, A very scary photo shoot at a haunted house, and so much more!!!

Like my luck is about to change. I feel like things are going too smooth lately, and I'm waiting for something to go wrong. It's like watching a horror movie when you know someone is about to get axed {pun intended} but you're not quite sure when that's going to happen...

BUSY BUSY BUSY. I feel like the paper in my calendar is going to fall apart soon because of how much I've been writing in it...

Excited to see an old friend on Wednesday.

Disappointed that Monday came so quickly. I seriously had NO time to relax over the weekend... but it WAS a great weekend!!!

I just wanted to say I'm sorry if my posts haven't been that interesting lately. I've barely had time to sit and think about anything besides makeup or what I need to do for class, or work... I'm just a little hot-mess-stress-basket these days. Soon I will be back to my normal self... hang tight!!

ready for the weekend . . .

well, last night marked my second class in makeup school. unfortunately, our makeup kits didn't come in yet, but they will definitely be in by Tuesday... seriously i'm wondering if they are testing my patience - haha. 

my instructor taught us color theory last night... you know, primary colors, secondary colors and complimentary colors. she quizzed us on eye colors and shadow colors: like if you have a blue eye your most complimentary colors are in the orange and yellow area -- meaning peaches and golds will make your eye look bluer... and green eyes more pinks and reds oranges and purples, and so on.

*** soooooo i tried a little something different on the eyes this morning...
a bronzey copper on the outside, creamy gold on the inside & liquid liner.
{i know it's not the best picture. i'll work on that} ***

...i'm diggin it...

it was definitely a helpful lesson, especially when we all received news that our makeup kit wouldn't contain an abundance of lipsticks, but just a few lipstick tints in the basic primary colors... which means WE WILL BE MIXING AND MAKING OUR OWN LIPSTICK COLORS every. single. time. Kinda scary, but VERY cool at the same time. reminds me of painting when i was a kid mixing all those paints...

we also were given a makeup artist to research -- mine was gina brooke. i'll admit i had no idea who she was, but a little research and a few articles later, i realized she is amazing, and does the exact style of makeup i am interested in. crazy huh?

because the lovely miss summer asked, here are some answers to some questions of hers. i love answering questions, so when i saw this on her blog post today, i knew i had to do it...  and i do what she says.

1. what book are you reading?

2. where do you wish you could be right now? 

on a vacation with Mr. D... somewhere tropical.

heck, i'd even take Palm Springs... anywhere but work.

3. what does your mousepad look like? 

it's a Wacom Tablet {for designers who draw on computers) so i kinda don't have one.

4. if you wanted to and you could quit your job without consequence. 

what would you say? 

i need a job that allows me to be more creative. sorry.

5. how will you make your dreams come true? 

always following my heart, and doing what i WANT to do rather than what i SHOULD do. 

never giving up, dealing with the stress and a busy schedule, 

and working my butt off putting myself out there.

6. Favorite Halloween costume ever?

 i still love my little devil costume from my little days.

i've always loved being a little devil.

7. Favorite song from back in the day? 

waterfalls - TLC... i grooved to that song on repeat for days

8. one thing you could change about you? 

my relationship with exercise. i wish i was more naturally athletic 

and didn't have to force myself to go to the gym.

another wonderful friday. . .

another friday is upon us, however this friday seemed a little more reluctant to appear than other fridays. 

oh, and remember this post from earlier in the week?

yeah, i have an appointment with the admissions director at the Make-up academy.

super. excited.

this week was just dragging along for me... but hey! it's finally friday!!

and you know what that means...

BLANKS!!

1.  The best piece of advice I was ever given was

 If you can't say nothin' nice, don't say nothin' at all.

2.  If I had a million dollars to give to one charity I would give it to  St. Jude's Chidren's research.

3.  If I got to choose my "last meal" it would be  

gruyere and herb ravioli {from los olivos cafe} with a roasted beet and goat cheese salad {from corktree} with a bottle of fantastic white wine. heaven.

4.  My hair is 

now blonde!!

 i've ditched the dark and went light. it's also working it's way into being "long"

5.  If at first you don't succeed  

try try again. if then you don't succeed, have a glass of wine and try again tomorrow.  : )

6.  I have always been very  

sarcastic and funny. i try to use my dry humor to my advantage whenever possible.

7.  Oh....and by the way....  

i can barely contain myself about the fact that it's friday and i get to be one step closer to taking make-up classes today!! oh, and HOORAY for the weekend!!

career intervention . . .

lately, i've been running into a lot of frustration at my current job. 

i feel like the people i work with, and the people i work for have absolutely no clue what i do, or what i am capable of doing for that matter. since my graduation from college, i have had 3 jobs in my chosen field, and in all three of those jobs, i have had executives/coworkers/supervisors that didn't fully understand my job description. throughout my career i've discovered that people take for granted the programs you have extensive knowledge in and expect you to use only programs they know how to use: for example, Microsoft word, Microsoft excel, and Powerpoint. 

for the past year, i have had little creativity in the workplace, which is not at all my fault. the company i work for has a strong marketing view that calls for very little advertising and creative brainstorming - um, which is exactly what i'm supposed to do. over time i have become creatively starved, and am being given projects an executive assistant would do – not a graphic artist. and quite honestly, i've been feeling more and more like a glorified assistant than an artist. 

i need a change. 

i need to be creative.

i've been really digging away at what really makes me happy and what i truly enjoy doing. once of those things that kept popping up in my mind was makeup. for years i've been interested in pursuing a career as a make-up artist, and honestly, i think it's time.

i mean seriously, this looks like something i could see myself doing. 

it is something that would keep me inspired... and i have to stop ignoring my inner grown-up that keeps telling me to just keep working my boring job. 

so... i think i've found it. i've found something to pursue, something more to achieve. i've found my inspiration. i've found a goal to achieve... maybe even just a class to take  : )

hey, it's a start.

wait, it's friday already???

is it really friday already? ha! where the heck did this week go?

last thing i remember was being sad it was only tuesday then WABAM!! it's friday.

it's been a good friday so far. i opened my mailbox for the first time this week {a terrible habit i have} and got this little Poketo in the mail from G-ma... 

LOVE it... it's sooooo cute!! G-ma knows me well.

well, tomorrow i'm doing the one crazy thing i never thought i would do... 

i'm running in the orchard to ocean 5K run... what?!

i don't think i'm totally prepared, but last night i got to thinking: if i don't plan on finishing in 1st place, or even 10th place for that matter, why am i so worried about it? bah... just as long as i FINISH the run {and actually run most of it} i'll be a very happy girl.

oh, yeah... it's friday blank time!!!!!

here are my blanks for this week...

1.  Today I am wearing 

 my flowery tunic from forever 21, jeans from american eagle, and my new cream flats. {casual friday - i love thee}

2.  My favorite childhood food was  

cheeeeeeeeeeeese burgers!!!!!  i had a small obsession.  

and my favorite food  now is either sushi or homemade irish cheddar macaroni and cheese. YUM YUM.

3.  A day that I am too busy to  shower and have coffee  is a day that I am too busy.

4.  The last movie I saw was  

Hurt Locker (rented from blockbuster) -- incredible movie!

and the next movie I want to see is 

Alice in wonderland. i still haven't seen it... : (

5.  My favorite smell is coconut because,  

it reminds me of sunscreen and anything tropical, which reminds me of summertime  : )

6.  A weird little quirk I have is  

always keeping the sink clean and doing my dishes right after i use them. i can't stand dirty dishes. i'd be an excellent roommate...

7.  When I take personality quizzes they always say I'm  

the life of the party. SUPER outgoing and magnetic. i usually laugh at those quizzes because i'm never like that at a party or with strangers. i'm only outgoing with my very close friends...

... that staring into the sun makes my sneezes go away?

i've heard from everyone else it makes you sneeze.

... that i am violently ticklish, but i LOVE when Mr. D rubs my feet?

... that i love something one day, then hate it the next?

i'm so indecisive.

i need to work on this.

sometimes a girl just needs a mental day...

... that i'm not afraid of flying, not afraid of heights, not even afraid of the dark... but speaking in front of a crowd {even a small one} absolutely terrifies me?

... that i would rather cut my food with only a fork and brut force than use a knife?

maybe it's the idea of washing another utensil, or being clumsy and cutting myself??

i dunno... i just know that i rarely have to wash my knives. weird.

i just wasn't ready to face another beginning of a week. i was still very attached to the weekend and wasn't ready to let go...

though i know it will be hard. i haven't run in 3 days.

and i wish i could just give her a hug.

i watched the US vs. Canada hockey game

i watched funny people - not a funny as you'd think

i went shopping with a bestie... always fun!

i got a very cute new shirt -- very summer!

i walked olive

i slept a ton

all in all -- it was a great weekend

and you know what that means...

there's BLANKS to be filled!!!

1.  When I'm nervous I

 tuck my hair behind my ears a million times a minute.

i can't stop... it's my nervous tick.

2.  My favorite item in my closet is 

 currently, it's my sychelles yellow her majesty pumps

and my anthropologie dress {i've only worn it twice, but i LOVE it}

3. taking a long hot shower, a home-cooked meal and a glass of wine

is my favorite thing to do when I need to relax.

4.  My favorite childhood memory is

  christmas morning with my little brothers when we still believed in santa and still wore onesie pajamas. christmas seemed so magical at that age... like anything was possible.

5.  Something you may not know about me is 

that i used to ride horses when i was younger... i was actually on a horseback riding team with Matthew Perry's younger half-sister...

6.  A true friend

 will be there when you're at your worst. will let you cry on their shoulder, and then make you laugh. they will listen to you always, and trust you to do the same when they need you.

7.  Something I hope people think of when they think of me is

 that i'm loyal and dependable, funny and fun, a good person, and a GREAT friend.

weekend in a nutshell: happy monday

this weekend went by entirely too fast,

and i am well aware i say that every monday.

this weekend i:

1) discovered a wonderful new place to have breakfast:

savory cafe and bakery!!

sun-dried tomato, turkey and feta omelette? YES PLEASE

2) saw shutter island on opening night

very graphic scenes that are pretty upsetting,

but the film-style and acting was incredible... 

hauntingly beautiful in a way.

if you enjoy psychological thrillers -- see this movie.

3) had lunch with the parentals

we love sharky's way too much...

4) discovered a new clothing store downtown. 

everything was $15 and under... i was blown away!

5) tried a delicious new pasta recipe:

spinach fettuccine with prosciutto and parmesan cream sauce. YUM

6) walked through a few open houses with Mr. D...

-- no we are not looking to buy, we just do that stuff for fun --

{we also realized just how long it will be until we are home owners}

...sigh...

hope everyone's weekend was lovely!!

i'm kinda sad to be back at work...

3. dentists are my most irrational fear.

4.  I'd rather  wear leggings, flats and a t-shirt everyday,  than get dressed up in heels and a dress everyday. {don't get me wrong, i love dressing up. it's just better when done on occasion}

5.  I am loving my new jeans i bought a while ago, and finally wore today. but i'd rather be in my PJ's right now. no offense jeans...

6.  I should really be 

 running today, but i'm counting on the rain to get here 

so i have a legitimate excuse to get out of it...

7.  One of my favorite things in all the world is 

the tingly feeling of sunkissed skin after spending a 

{safe/sunscreened} day in the sunshine at the beach, lake or pool...

what love stories best describe your meaning of love?

a silly story of sorts...

almost every morning i make instant oatmeal for breakfast.

yesterday i ran out, so i went to trader joe's and bought more.

i brought the box to work today... and around 8:30, i got hungry.

i attempted to open the box.

the cardboard was strangely resistant to my prying fingers

i wondered, did they use superglue to seal this box... sheesh!

a piece folded, but the glue was still resisting me

my fingers slipped and i bent a nail... great.

i file down my nail, and try again.

finally, half of the box lid opens.

i continue to force my finger underneath the box to try

and release the remaining glue and cardboard.

why the heck is it so difficult to get in this box!

it's instant oatmeal for cryin' out loud...

it finally opens, and i feel victorious.

until...

i look at the box and realize...

i've been trying to open the bottom.

awesome.
