Last night was probably the most challenging class yet. We finally got to apply full makeup {not just foundation} on someone. We had a group of girls come in and sit in our chairs to bravely get their makeup done... all of us makeup artists were lined up in little tiny booth-like stations in the classroom. Good thing none of us were claustrophobics.
After getting our model situated we began working our magic. After applying moisturizer, the concealer goes on, then the foundation. The challenge of this is color matching. Color matching is a piece of cake for me... so far. I seem to be able to mix the colors and get a great match every time... so at least one hurdle is out of the way.
The challenge of the night was the actual eye makeup... we learned a natural smokey eye and had a false eyelash workshop. Applying a smokey eye was very interesting... especially since it was on another person rather than myself. What a difference that makes!! Luckily enough, my model had great big eyes and it was relatively easy to apply the shadow.
** A little tip we learned in class that I wish I new prior to my class: Before applying dark shadows to the eyes, apply a 'set powder" {a loose powder} underneath the eyes -- make sure it is loose on the skin, don't blend it in. When you are done applying the dark eyeshadow, you can simply sweep the excess powder/shadow from underneath the eyes with a powder brush!! This will prevent from getting dark circles or spots from the eyeshadow!! ***
By this time, the smokey eye was done and looking good. I applied false eyelashes for the first time, and they didn't look bad either, despite my mini panic attack from applying them. {False eyelashes scare the living crap out of me -- don't know why} I was feeling pretty good about myself, especially when my model told me her eyes normally water when other people do her makeup and her eyes weren't watering!! {ahem, GO me!!}
It was a VERY good learning experience, and I feel slightly more confident about our photo shoot on Thursday... where we will be doing the same style of makeup, but on a different model.
I will have MY OWN photos of MY OWN makeup applications soon. Very cool.
